My parents' take on what to drink in college.
Alcohol: We know it's college and you'll drink eventually in your life, so it's okay to drink one casual beer now and then, but don't drink heavily or much or at all because you know we're all lightweights when it comes to drinking. But if you do go to a party and drink too much, always catch a ride or a bus or a cab or ride with a sober friend. You can even call us, we won't get mad at you. We'd much rather drive all the way to Austin, or wherever you go to college, and have you safe and alive in our car, instead of having to drive all the way there to bail you out of jail or identify your body because you crashed while drinking and driving.
Coffee: No coffee. At all. Ever. It will stunt your growth, you'll stay short forever, and then you'll die.
